How Did Mormonism Begin?

INTRODUCTION

Joseph Fielding Smith, the nephew of Joseph Smith, Jr., wrote, “Mormonism, as it is called, must stand or fall on the story of Joseph Smith.  He was either a prophet of God, divinely called, properly appointed and commissioned, or he was one of the biggest frauds this world has ever seen.  There is no middle ground” (J. F. Smith).  Little must he have known that the words he so confidently proclaimed could be the same ones used to emphatically expose one of the most successful false religions of all time.
